Once again to Pediacast, it's a pediatric podcast for moms and dads.

This is Dr. Mike coming to you from the campus of Nationwide Children's Hospital.

We're calling this one hypothermia, frostbite, and basketball injuries.

I want to welcome everyone to the program.

I also want to welcome you to 2018.

It's the beginning of a new year, and we are kicking things off, hopefully with some

practical information that you can use as a parent.

All of them really winter-related topics.

It's really cold outside in the eastern part of the United States and also here in central

Ohio with single digits in terms of the daily highs. We're below zero at night. And wind chills,

like 10 to 20 below zero.

So we are definitely in the midst of a winter.

And so I thought it would be a great idea to talk about hypothermia and frostbite today.

You know, what are the signs, especially what are the early signs of hypothermia and frostbite?

So you can intervene quickly if your child seems to be having a problem with that.

We'll also talk prevention and then what happens if you really do get full-fledged hypothermia.
