informative place on the internet for you for gardening information. So today we're talking

about hydroton, also known as expanded clay pebbles. These are a really popular form of growing

media actually I remember that there was a point in time where it was impossible to find

these because they were so popular that the mines

that were producing them were running out of the clay that they needed to

actually create this growing media which was a bit depressing I was going around

to different stores trying to find it

and couldn't find it and it's one of my favorite types of growing media. So how is this stuff

made? Well what people will do is they will take the clay and they will heat it to over 2,000

degrees Fahrenheit by using a rotary kiln which gives it that sort of pebbly form and what that

does is it fills the clay with little air bubbles which

makes it perfect for holding oxygen as well as moisture around plant roots and you can

mix these with soil or you can use it alone.

If you're growing hydroponically, you probably will be using these on their own,

just as a standalone medium.

It's really popular because honestly, Hydroton has a lot of upsides and only a few downsides.

And how those downsides affect you depend on your time, your patience, and your resources.

So, you know, for me, my opinion is if you're a really impatient gardener,

you're probably not even in the right hobby.

Gardening is a hobby of patience and persistence rather than
