Today we are answering the question, how does light affect plant growth?

It's a complex question and of course I'm not a botanist and I'm not a lightning expert I am just a simple

gardening layman just like you so I'll explain this as I've learned it and of

course it might be more complex there might be more details that I could have added if I was one of these

experts, but I found that this is a pretty helpful overview as to how light is used by plants.

So the first question we should ask ourselves is why do plants even need light?

Well, you might recall your old science classes in grade school where you discussed photosynthesis.

Perhaps it looked like a jumble of numbers and letters in a chemical equation showing how light is converted into energy,

but that's not so necessary to us as gardeners. Of course, it's interesting

if you want to get that deep about it, but the basic overview is plants use light light water, carbon dioxide to make sugar, which is converted into

ATP by cellular respiration.

Chlorophyll that plants have in their cells absorbs the sun's energy.

Carbon dioxide enters the leaves through tiny little pores and the roots draw up water and nutrients from the soil. The energy from the light is what

chops up the water molecules, kind of like your favorite horror movie villain. So this horrific

act gives us the oxygen we need to breathe, so I guess it's really not all that

horrifying, and then carbon dioxide befriends the abandoned hydrogen to make the

plants fuel. But plants do not just need any type of light. They need a specific type of light.

So what kind of light do plants need? There is a spectrum of light that is based on
