Summary

Zach Shaw and Steve Lorenz take a break from football breakdowns, and reflect on the award-winning seasons from Aidan Hutchinson, Josh Gattis and other members of the Michigan football team.

We open with a discussion on Hutchinson, and the many awards he will be racking up. We look back on his senior season, his decision to return for his senior year and why he's something of a rare bird in college football. We also look at his belonging in the Heisman Trophy finalists, and where this season ranks among the all-time seasons by a Michigan defensive player.

In the second half of the episode, we discuss Josh Gattis winning the Broyles Award as the nation's top assistant coach, and the impact he has had on Michigan since his arrival in 2019. We look at his value, and debate whether any of his coworkers could have claimed to similar honors. We also discuss Jim Harbaugh's national coach of the year opportunities, and other players who could be up for awards.

I mean, there isn't a game this weekend, but things slowing down for at least a couple weeks before Michigan starts, you know, I guess their full speed practices leading up to the college football playoff.

0:20.5

We thought it might be fun to look at some of the postseason honors Michigan is receiving this week.

0:28.2

So lots of Aidan Hutchinson talk.

0:30.4

And then in the second half, we'll talk about Josh Gaddis, maybe some junior Colson and Jake Moody.

0:36.5

Some other players who either already have

0:39.1

or should get some honors as well. It's quite a week for Michigan, really. It's probably going to go

0:47.6

down right up there with 97 in terms of individual awards that Michigan is, is raking in, and all American honors that they're raking in.

0:58.7

So we'll talk about Hutchinson, and then the second half will do Gattis,

1:03.2

offensive line as well, Jake Moody, Jr. Colson, some of the other distinctions.

1:08.2

But Aidan Hutchinson, it seems like every time I wake up, I see that he has

1:13.3

won another award or is a finalist for another award. Last night, around 10.30 p.m., he won the

1:19.8

Rotary Lombardi Award for the top lineman, offensive or defensive in the country.

1:26.2

The award's been around since 1970.

1:29.4

Hutchinson is just the second Michigan player to win it.

1:31.6

Lamar Woodley also won it in 2006.

1:35.3

But really, I think the big thing for Hutchinson this week, and I guess we'll see what

1:40.5

happened Saturday, but Heisman finalist has a very strong chance to finish in the top four,

1:48.0

which is something that really has not happened a ton for Michigan in the past 30 years.

1:54.1

I mean, you're talking about Chris Perry.

1:56.7

Jibril Pepper's got fifth, by the way.
