A Maryland man is behind bars after authorities say he is responsible for his wife's

cold case murder over two decades ago.

Dwight D.J. Rust Jr. was taken into custody April 21st on charges stemming from the 2002

death of Michelle Rust. Rust first reported his wife missing July 20th, 2002, as the couple

was preparing for their three-year-old

son's birthday party. He said that Michelle had laughed around 9.30 a.m. that morning to pick up

some last-minute items from Walmart but never returned. Her car was found abandoned that day,

but her body was never found. She was just 24 years old at the time. The case went cold for 24

years until Baltimore authorities announced

Dwight Russ's arrest on a first-degree murder charge, but stopped short of providing

details as to what led them to him. The assistant attorney general argued Russ was trying to

start a new life with a new woman. When his wife went missing, Russ attorney denies that.
