Summary

In its first ever appearance in the College Football Playoff, LSU dismantled Oklahoma in historic, record-breaking fashion, a 63-28 win to move on to the national title game.

A day that started with sorrow ended with football joy, and we focus mostly on football today, as the Tigers are making a case as maybe one of the best teams of all time.

We talk Joe Burrow's record day (again), how Justin Jefferson went off for 14 catches and 228 yards and 4 touchdowns, Chris Curry stepping up for Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Thad Moss being still underrated, Terrace Marshall being a stud, the O-line stepping up, K'Lavon Chaission wreaking havoc, and the pass defense becoming the best in the country.

A slightly different edition of the Hurry Up today: no player audio. Just 50 minutes of analysis and Mailbag questions, because, now, I head to the hospitality room.

See y'all in New Orleans. (Actually, we'll have more episodes before then) .

Hey, everybody, welcome to another hurry-up edition of Hey Fight and podcast.

Coming to you live from Atlanta, as LSU just knocked off Oklahoma, 6328 in the college football playoff.

Semi-final, a game where so many records were set, and LSU really established itself as not just the best team in the country right now, but one of the best teams of all time,

0:38.7

possibly. We'll talk about that a little bit later in the show. A lot to get to. I'll go ahead and

0:43.4

get it out of the way early in the show. This is going to be a quicker episode of the hurry-up for a

0:48.3

couple of reasons. One, I'd like to get down to the hospitality room here in the hotel and kind of

0:52.1

celebrate with the team and with our crew of content creators who have just done such amazing work. I was able to stay home for Christmas. They've been up here all week and just doing amazing stuff. So check out all their stuff, LSU football, Twitter account, Instagram, Facebook, all that stuff. They put out amazing content all week long. I'd like to get down there and celebrate with them a little bit. I also have a story to write after this. So I'm going to try to knock this out as quickly and efficiently as possible. For that reason, I did sit out an inquiry for some mailback questions so you can kind of help me with the content. We'll do that instead of playing player audio. We got a little bit of player audio after the game, not as much as I wanted to,

1:27.8

and it was another locker room situation with music playing. It's just not the best audio. So don't know that I want to play that. On the podcast, we'll make up for it with the mailback questions at the end. I think I got one voicemail question from a listener and a bunch on Twitter, so I will knock those out. There's a lot I want to talk about. I want to talk about obviously the offense, just setting so many records yet again, getting better. This is the best team in the country, and they're getting better. I want to talk about all that. I want to talk about the defense and some of the things that they did, some of the things I saw from Oklahoma. If you listen to the Jigapestor podcast that I did before, which I put out Friday, kind of short notice ahead of the game, so not as many people got to it as normal. But all the things that we talked about pretty much bore out in fruition, and we'll talk about that in the show a little bit. I want to talk about the defense, especially the past defense, and how good it's been and how good it was again against Oklahoma and what that means for LSU going forward. And then a couple of guys that

2:17.5

picked up little nicks and injuries give some updates on them. Before we get into the football,

2:22.1

I want to address this at the top and try to do it as respectfully as possible. Before the game,

2:27.9

there was a tragedy with the LSU family, with the media family, as Carly McCord, who is

2:33.5

not only Steve Insminger's daughter-in-law,

2:35.9

but also a longtime reporter who's been around the beat, the LSU beat, and Louisiana Sports

beat for a very, very long time. She was on a plane on the way to the game, and that plane crashed,

2:47.1

and she passed away along with five others. And it's hard for me to talk about because

2:52.9

I knew Carly. I've known her since high school. She went to high school with my wife. I've known

2:58.4

her on the beat. She's one of the friendliest people ever. She produced for me when I'd fill in for

3:03.5

Matt on 104-5 and really held my hand through doing three hours of solo radio for a week

3:10.2

at a time and was just amazing in that experience with me.

3:15.2

And everyone has a Carly story.
