Summary

So, this is a vulnerable one. We meet again, Valentine's Day. Whether you're attached or not this year, there's something I can't stress enough: No other person can fill the void if you don't love yourself. It's called self-love for a reason, right? It starts with you. Today, I'm finally writing myself a letter that I should've written long ago. Today, I'm encouraging you to write one, too, to take note of the things that you appreciate about yourself — from strong personality traits to physical characteristics. You are worthy. Today — and every day going forward — I'm working hard to remind myself of that.

And so that's what we're talking about.

I was looking at my time hop the other day and I realized that the last time that I was

1:10.1

actually in a relationship

1:11.6

on Valentine's Day was 2015. I came home from work. I remember it was a weeknight and my

1:19.2

boyfriend at the time had surprised me by making Nutella dipped strawberries. He also bought me,

1:26.8

and I wish I was joking, a ladle as a gift, like the type of

1:31.8

kitchen implement that you make pancakes with or serve sauce with. In retrospect, it was really

1:39.0

thoughtful because he knew that I needed said ladle and I wanted to buy one, but I wouldn't necessarily say

1:45.9

that it was on the top of my things that most women want for Valentine's Day list.

1:51.4

I digress. So I was sitting in my living room thinking about my history with Valentine's Day

1:56.5

reading my 23rd estimated targeted email of the morning referencing the Hallmark holiday and

2:02.7

realize that, well, it's BS. Because none of these emails or my dating history or anything else,

2:10.4

none of that gets to shape how I feel about myself this week. It's called self-love for a reason, right? Not man love or we love or even partner love.
