Summary

I am a 3:28:08 marathoner. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d be saying that sentence. In today’s #hurdlemoment — a recap of last weekend’s Chicago Marathon — I give the rundown on how the 21:08 PR happened, from the prep and what I did differently for my eight marathon to how I got my mind right walking to the starting line. I get emotional (surprise) reflecting on the highs and lows of the race, and talk about what’s next for me (plus, what’s not).

Well, here we are. Hey, hurdlers, Emily Abadi here with a new hurdle moment from Hurdle,

0:10.1

a podcast that talks to everyone from entrepreneurs to top CEOs and athletes about how they've

0:15.2

gotten through tough times, hurdles of sorts, by leaning in to wellness. Today, the episode that so many of you have been

0:24.6

asking me for since Sunday's Chicago Marathon, a recap. I thought a lot about writing this one down.

0:33.6

I thought a lot about how I would structure this episode and decided that instead of overthinking

0:40.5

it, I would just go off the cuff. So in today's episode, I'm going to be talking about a day

0:48.3

that has forever changed my life. If you've been following along on social media or if you haven't, regardless,

0:55.4

I'm so appreciative that you're in my little corner of the interwebs. Chicago was unbelievable.

1:04.8

I did something on Sunday that I never thought would be possible for me. And to be honest with you, wasn't even

1:14.9

something in terms of goals that was on my radar. On Sunday, I ran 26.2 miles through the streets

1:23.8

of Chicago in three hours, 28 minutes, and 8 seconds. I say that and I'm at an immediate

1:32.8

loss for words because although I know it's real, although I know it happened, trust me,

1:38.8

my body feels like it happened. It feels surreal. I'm so grateful for the experience. I'm so thankful for the support

1:50.1

of my friends and my family. And of course, from all of you. And in today's episode, I'm going to

1:57.2

talk through what happened. How did that happen? As someone that before Sunday had a marathon personal best of 3.49.13, that's over a 21-minute

2:10.5

difference.

2:11.8

And today I'm going to give you some insight into how that really happened or at least, you know, what I've been able to piece

2:19.0

together of it anyway. You guys know the drill. I've been connecting with so many of you on

2:26.0

social media. So of course, continue to reach out to me. I read all of your messages and do the

2:31.1

best that I can to try and get back to you. It is at Emily Abadi

2:35.7

and at Hurdle podcast on Instagram as well as Emily at hurdle.us over email. And lastly, before I get

2:44.0

into it, a huge thank you to all the hurdlers that came out on Friday before the marathon out
