Summary
Weight is a pretty taboo topic, like money or sex. This week for #HURDLEMOMENT, I'm sharing a recent conversation I had about mine with a follower, and offering up some insight on how NOT to address such a touchy subject (especially with someone you may not know all that well). As someone who has struggled with hers over the years — and is forever a work in progress when it comes to body confidence and positive self talk — it's interesting to be a part of any conversation where it's implied that "smaller is better." Fact: You CAN find happiness at many different sizes. In today's episode, I'm asking a very important question: WHY do you really feel compelled to mention size to another person? For those that do want to address a recent weight loss or gain with a loved one, I'm offering up some smart tips on — what I perceive to be — the right way to go about it.

| 0:00.0 | the next time that you feel compelled to speak to someone about their weight, about their size, |
| 0:05.7 | I encourage you to ask yourself, why is it that you feel the need to do it? |
| 0:29.7 | Hey, hurdlers, Emily Abadi, popping in with another installment of Hurtle moment from Hurtle. |
| 0:40.4 | This week, I want to talk about something that's a little taboo, and that is weight, kind of up there with topics like money and dating and sex. I had an interaction that I'm going to tell you about today that made me |
| 0:48.7 | want to bring this to the feed, a conversation over Instagram, which kind of was off-putting. |
| 0:57.4 | And I don't know, it's just something that's going on a lot when we talk about in our |
| 1:01.9 | culture, someone's size and that being smaller is quote unquote necessarily better. |
| 1:07.1 | And I'm just, I'm tired of it. |
| 1:09.9 | And so for a hurdle moment today, I'm going to be chatting |
| 1:12.4 | a little bit about the right way maybe to chat with someone you care about when it comes |
| 1:18.4 | to their weight. And I say this with a disclaimer. And I come at this with my own personal |
| 1:25.7 | experience. For those of you that have been listening to the show for a while, you know my backstory |
| 1:31.5 | and that I lost 70 pounds and have kept it off since college. |
| 1:36.3 | I'm not sitting here with this microphone to say that I have all the right insight. |
| 1:42.2 | I have all of the right answers. |
| 1:43.6 | I never claim to have all the answers. But what have all of the right answers. I never claim to have all the answers. |
| 1:46.8 | But what I do have, again, is my own experience to bring to the table and, you know, just a |
| 1:52.7 | story to share. Again, weight can be a tough topic. So a couple things. First off, if you are |
| 1:59.5 | struggling with yours, you are certainly not alone. It is a really hard thing to deal with, feeling either unhappy in your body or being on the other end of the spectrum sometimes, being great and feeling so confident at your size when others might have an opinion, although who cares what they think, about how you look. |
| 2:18.9 | If this is a topic that isn't your jam, I respect it. |
| 2:23.1 | It's cool. |
| 2:24.0 | But again, here I am bringing someone to the feed that really resonated with me this |
