I'm going to start today with a story about a man named Scott Kassal.

He's a diver and former counterterrorism sniper.

And years ago, he went diving off the coast of Mexico, hoping to find some Humboldt squid.

Unfortunately for him, he found exactly what he was looking for.

As he was swimming underwater, two squid came out of nowhere, from the left and the right

simultaneously, each one as large as a fully grown human, each one moving at speeds that would

Kassell, knowing the strength of the animal's beaks,

struggled desperately to defend himself and avoid their bites.

But he failed miserably.

They bit him repeatedly from unpredictable angles.

They partially scalped him, exposing his bare skull to the ocean.

He later said it was like getting bitten by a 100-pound parrot.

He tried to push one of them off using his camera, and this monster grabbed his arm and

ripped it out of its socket like his ligaments were made of paper.

Suddenly, he was forced to swim with only one usable arm, and at that moment, two more squid appeared from the depths and

grabbed his legs, dragging him down at such a terrible speed that one of his eardrums exploded.

At this point, Scott realized he was likely to die,

and so he began to fight for his life, kicking at the squid with both legs, punching them,

scratching them, even beating them using his wounded arm as a club. One of them grabbed his wrist,

and in the split second it took for him to react and roll his

wrist out of the beak, the animal bit down and broke his wrist in five places, shattering it.
