Summit in Vancouver. Our speaker is Martina Vandenberg, the founder and president of the

Human Trafficking Legal Center,

an organization that has trained over 3,600 lawyers to represent trafficking survivors

and to hold traffickers accountable for their crimes through civil litigation and criminal restitution.

Martina is widely admired for her smart, pragmatic, and very effective approach on behalf of survivors.

Thank you very much. It's a huge honor to be here today. I want to thank Alexander Raggi,

of whom I am also a huge admirer, and it's wonderful to see all of you.

I am living proof that there's life after law firm.

In case any of you are thinking about going and doing

all pro bono all the time. I want to start by asking one question. How many of you

seen the movie taken? Okay, just for the record, I hate this movie. This movie is probably

the most inaccurate, horrendous depiction of human trafficking ever brought to us by Hollywood.

What's wrong with this movie?

Other than, I did throw this question out once to a bunch of law students and someone said,

the acting.

No, no, other than the acting.

The problem with this movie is that it gives the impression that all human trafficking is run by organized crime,

in this case the Albanians.

It gives the impression that all human trafficking is sex trafficking.
