Once again, wasn't even planning on recording with Danny today because we got a nice long podcast with Mike Schmitz for right after this talking about his observation, scouting the top 10 or so of the draft and then also giving us some of his sleepers and potential boss we go really in depth on the top 10 so stay tuned for that.

But first Danny and I have to get to all these trades that happened today and first first after mind you that were sponsored today by Audible.

0:26.7

Thank you to them for supporting the program.

0:29.1

Alright, let's get right to it Danny. What were the terms of this massive Lakers Nest trade?

0:33.5

DeAngelo Russell and team if he team if he Moskov are going from the Lakers to the Nets in exchange for Brook Lopez and the 27th pick in the draft.

0:42.2

So the Moskov deal really was that bad huh?

0:44.4

It was. We do it was and and it's pretty remarkable to see how expensive that ended up being for them because I like to think about this trade more in terms of the Nets just because and this is one where I do think you need to split the two again.

0:57.2

Like we talked about with the Sixers and Celtics trade because for the Nets they we we talk a lot on this.

1:04.0

We probably talked about this more than any other podcast about the idea of how much it costs to get rid of bad salary and so with Moskov three years 48 is what I believe was remaining with him.

1:14.2

We had said the line about how you know that's basically 20 million or so for first round pick.

1:18.5

But what they did what what yeah to 20 million in debt salary for a.

1:22.4

In debt salary and Moskov is not all debt salary but you know close close to that and so what what marks did which I think was was a really good move is that instead of getting kind of two middleing assets like what you probably would have expected from the Blazers if they were trying to dump one of their bad contracts.

1:38.6

He got one much better asset in the form of DeAngelo Russell of course they did also give up a late first round pick and Brook Lopez who can both help the Lakers to yeah the Brook Lopez part is an interesting component of this.

1:51.4

That will get to but it's just by one criticism of this for the Lakers and I'm not sure me I'm not sure whether this is a bad thing or not but you would think that the price to dump Moskov would have been a lot lower with only two years left on his deal then three.

2:08.4

So that's definitely a reason why maybe they should have just waited and maybe they could have just held on to Russell and see how the fit was between he and Lonzo ball.

2:17.4

He seems though that magic and Polinka decided that you know whether he was a cancer or he just wasn't that good and I understand why they might feel that way about him I have not been as high on Russell but that's as a potential superstar player I just don't think he quite has the athleticism but you know if he starts shooting 40% on three he becomes a pretty darn valuable player and he also really hasn't had a chance to operate in the way that would most showcases skills which is actually playing with the space floor he's basically played with a four man who doesn't shoot three's nearly.

2:46.4

Every moment of his career in Los Angeles so I think Russell still has enough upside certainly more upside than anyone on the nets right now to I think he can at least be a quality player going forward and the nets are going to just hand him the keys probably they still germy lin on the on the team but this also actually could free them up to try and move lin and get another asset as well when it's lin as one year left on his deal at 12

3:08.4

which actually is not a bad contract there's a lot of teams once the music stops that may be looking for a backup point guard who could also move to the two a little bit the way lin can and then lin as another year on his deal with a player option which he may or may not decline unless to see how the point card market shakes out that's going to be another

3:25.6

component of this too that we haven't talked about so it does seem that Russell's value around the league was low because there'd been other reporting indicating that the Lakers tried to move him for a lottery pick and got no takers which I think especially towards the back into the lottery that's

3:39.3

something that I would have taken a look at if I were I mean think about the distance like the piston the pistons were rumored to be trading their trading their pick are

3:47.2

shopping it for veteran the angel Russell would have been a really nice high upside comparatively guy for them along those lines that isn't just completely there especially with Reggie Jackson's injury history and just his poor play last year.

3:59.2

Now a reason why the Lakers why it made more sense to move Moscow now was Lonzo ball is coming in it's going to be the pick is going to be him by the way we told you here right that don't buy this they're going to draft somebody else noise I mean that was I think a lot of that was just maybe to try and pump up Russell's value with the
