Welcome to the beat I'm Ari Melber and Kamala Harris is turning up the heat on

Donald Trump to debate her again, vowing to face him next month as Trump is

backing down from past claims that he's happy to debate. The clash is the surest sign yet that both these candidates think Harris got more out of the last debate than Trump and she says Trump should agree

Because they should debate with so much left to discuss.

I would like another debate, so I'm hoping the former vice president will agree to that.

But we have a lot more to discuss.

Mind me on the debate stage. Let's have another debate. There's more to talk about and

the voters of America deserve to hear the conversations that I think we should be having on substance on issues on

policies what's your plan what's my plan and and we should have another one

before election day well it's showing that there's a lot of support for our message and what we need to do in terms of moving forward and charting a new way forward and dispensing with all of the attempts to divide our country and to just, you know, really,

the problem I think on the other side is that there is a devaluation of who the American people are.

Harris making the case, her campaign clearly game for the debate,

but they also think this whole conversation

to start the week is good politics, emphasizing Trump is running from a showdown

even if they don't think they can get the showdown to happen. I could tell you that

AIDS and Democrats are posting videos, casting Donald Trump as a chicken, the DNC buying billboards to troll him with the same

poultry attack. Trump's refusal to debate again is actually itself unusual. This is the first October that will have no

presidential debate in a general election since all the way back to 72 when Nixon

refused to debate McGovern. In fact, there's been an October debate every cycle since then,

and that includes last cycle when Trump faced Biden twice, with basically one of the

originally planned of those three debates scuttled over COVID issues.

Now Nixon didn't want to debate because of the view that he lost that famous 1960 debate to JFK and then lost a close election.
