this is three to a hello from Washington and welcome to the Chuck Toddcast. So it is the final weekend before Iowa.

It's the start of the presidential primary season.

And it has all the excitement that a spring football game in college has or pre-season NFL.

It's going to look like a campaign.

It's going to look like it could be competitive.

And then it may not there's a whole bunch of

results that may not really matter that much and I guess that's the question how

much is Iowa going to matter I can tell you this I thought Iowa was going to matter a lot. I

really thought there was going to be here we are three years and a couple of days

after January 6th. I thought there was going to be a real debate inside what should the

Republican Party be and who should be the

leader and I think we I think that anybody that watched the Republican Party go

through January 6th themselves and you spend any time talking to any

member of the Republican Party and it seemed inevitable that the 24 campaign would be sort of about this.

And while I think 50 years from now historians are going to attempt to write papers and books about the sort of the fight over Trump and

Trumpism inside the Republican Party in the 20s. What was that like? But you're

going to have a hard time using the 2024 primary campaign as some sort of proof as to what happened during this debate because we're really not having one.

There's only one candidate running who I'd argue is actually not just running

running against Trump and his character but actually running against Trump and his character

but actually running against Trumpism and what I think was a failure of a term as president.
