Welcome. Thanks for joining us here on the Mona Charan Show. My guest today is one of the most incisive observers of the political scene, Jonathan Chate of the Atlantic Magazine. Jonathan has had a couple of really,

well, he always has excellent work, but in particular in the wake of the Charlie Kirk

assassination, I think Jonathan has cut to the essence of the challenge that this poses to us as a country.

Jonathan, there's been a lot of effort, I think, well-meaning to sort of to say, well, you know,

people are very upset and certainly the MAGA forces and Republicans feel that they are being hunted.

There were assassination attempts, after all, on Trump himself.

And now this.

And therefore, we have to bear in mind that they are very upset.

And that's fine. Let's bear bear in mind that they are very upset. And that's fine.

Let's bear that in mind.

But there's another way of looking at this, which is that this tragedy, this assassination,

is being used as a pretext for an authoritarian attack on all criticism of

the president and all opposition.
