When the temperatures rise it might seem like the best thing to do is just chill

out. Stay inside and not worry about the garden too much, right? But you're forgetting your plants and especially those of us who like to push our zones and grow things a little out of season, they really will suffer.

It's one of the most important things to do.

Remember, if you don't water or modulate you're watering

during a heat wave, then your plants might just die and there goes your entire season.

So it's one of those mistakes where, you know, maybe if you wait a little bit long on pruning,

it's not a big deal, but if you make a mistake like this, then your entire garden can be decimated.

Now there's not really one simple answer to watering in a heat wave.

You have to look at a lot of different things right it's like everything in

gardening you have to consider many different things what kind of plant is it how much

humidity is in the air what kind of soil type is your garden and there's a lot of other things to consider.

So first of all let's just talk about a general rule of thumb.

You're gonna have to water more So that's for sure true. You may have to up your watering

from once a day, which is typically how I do it to maybe twice or even three times a day with insane conditions, especially if you're growing in relatively loose well draining soil.

You don't have mulch, but there are some things you can do to buffer that a little bit.

So number one, you can mulch really heavily so you can

add a little bit more mulch on top maybe if you have one or two inches you go to

three or four inches of mulch and that's going to help protect and cool down the soil

surface by basically acting as a block.
