| 0:08.0 | This morning we are in Myrtle Beach and actually taking a walk to the grocery store. |
| 0:16.0 | I need to pick up something for breakfast and I could drive. I could ride my bike, but I've decided instead to walk, which is one of the beautiful things about |

| 0:34.6 | Anyhow, this morning I want to talk about the value of competition in fitness and |
| 0:41.1 | developing a fitness lifestyle. So about eight years ago, the radio station, the place where I work, |
| 0:48.4 | offered all the employees, which includes not only the radio station, but also youth camp or sister |
| 0:55.1 | organizations. And every employee was offered a free Fitbit. That's how I got my first Fitbit. |
| 1:04.1 | And there were incentives to get out and walk and to use it. You know, the whole push behind this was really from a culture of care |
| 1:15.4 | that the organization wants the employees to be always moving towards a healthier lifestyle. |
| 1:23.7 | And of course, fitness is a part of that. |
| 1:25.5 | So offered every employee a Fitbit and then incentives to actually get out and walk, get those steps. |
| 1:37.1 | And part of the motivation, part of the incentives was a competition at the time. |
| 1:42.9 | Fitbit allowed you to create groups and every member of the group, their steps would be tracked and you could see how you were doing in relation to everybody else through a leaderboard. And there were probably a handful of us in the organization that were highly, highly competitive. |

| 2:10.7 | months where I actually was number one. |
| 2:13.0 | There were also a couple of people, particularly at the youth camp, who moved even more than I did. |

| 2:27.9 | And that was crucial for me in those early stages of my fitness journey was that competition. |
| 2:38.0 | It was highly motivating to get out and move even when I didn't feel like it. |
| 2:45.0 | But I found something strange, it's not strange, something interesting happened. |
