Okay that's it so here go. All human beings have two rather distinct memory structures.

One is known clinically as explicit or declarative memories.

Explicit memories are events in life that we can consciously recall

whenever we choose to. We know that these events happened in the past,

not the present, and we can put these events into language and words, but these events do not generally

influence our behavior unless we so choose.

Explicit or declarative memories in Buddhist lingo, Buddha called this in the fourth foundation of

Darma, essentially Manas. It's the the conscious mind. These declarative explicit memories are largely organized by the

brain using region known as the left hippocampus which is a part of your midbrain

that can turn experience into learning that can be organized in chronological order where you can tell a story with the beginning,

a middle, and end.

The good thing about the hippocampus is that it can essentially inhibit when we need an emotional response.

So when we have memories that are stored in the explicit left hippocampus

regions.

Not only can we talk about it and turn it into a story,

but the emotional activations are largely regulated.
