Does promoting yourself make you uncomfortable?

Or flip side, have you put yourself out there and then been

criticized for being too self-centered? I have experienced both. I used to hate

self-promotion and I was overlooked for opportunities as a result.

Then I gained more confidence and was accused of being self-obsessed.

Like for example, there was this one time I applied for a big job. I went

through some initial phases and then came into the office for an interview and I

remember sitting there in a conference room with the company's CEO,

and the CEO said to me,

so Jason, I talked to some of your former colleagues.

Oh, what did they say?

I asked.

The CEO said, well everyone says you're smart and

talented, but they also said it's always the Jason Fyfer show with him. What do you

make of that? Now when I heard that I felt a jolt of adrenaline like I needed to run

out of the room but then I thought no no I will not be ashamed like this.
