Summary

Last year I finally discovered a name for the very real experience I've had, well, pretty much every year since I can remember. It hits when the holidays are over, and summer break seems like an eternity away...When life feels one part exhausting and one part super boring. It’s often rainy and cold, (at least where I grew up, and sometimes even in Hawaii!) the house tends to be a bit extra cluttered (spring cleaning hasn’t happened yet.) I typically want to quit homeschooling, New Years resolutions have gone by the wayside, and I can’t think of a thing to cook for dinner.  (Wait, you too!?) Well, thanks to the internet, last year I learned that this is called the “February Slump.” It’s a legit thing and if this is new to you, I hope you feel at least a little better giving it a name. Since we both just learned about this annual phenomenon last year, my friend Leanne and I thought it would be the right thing to discuss it on the podcast. (BTW, Leanne also works with me so this is a fun chance to get to know her!) In this conversation we acknowledge "the slump", share from our experience (we each have 4 kids, in two very different seasons,) and offer some practical advice on how to navigate well. (There is hope!) I hope you enjoy this fun and honest “girlfriend/Mom” chat.   Find links and notes to anything we mentioned over at: http://www.monicaswanson.com/february-slump  Find all show notes: www.monicaswanson.com/podcast  Looking for new science or math homeschool curriculum? And I'm wondering, if you have set some resolutions or goals in this new year, how are you doing

on those?

0:22.8

My husband was just telling me about National Quitters Day, which I believe is like the second

Friday in January.

0:29.0

And that's the day that most people give up already on their New Year's resolutions.

0:33.2

And I know it's hard to stay motivated, right?

0:35.7

Especially as we're going to talk about today, when we hit

0:38.2

that month of February, there is a February slump that is a universal thing about a year ago.

0:43.1

My friend Leanne and I started chatting about this. And in the homeschool world where we both live,

0:48.1

she homeschools for younger kids, this is a topic that comes up a lot. How can we get through

0:53.0

this month that can feel so blah?

0:55.6

And I know that this isn't just homeschoolers. This is a universal issue. So I invited Leanne to come on

1:01.9

and just have this conversation that I think is super relatable and hopefully we'll be full of

encouragement, some practical advice, tips, perspectives, and all of that. As you'll hear,

Leanne is actually someone that works with me. She has been working with me for a year and a half

doing some strategy work. We talk every day and we have meetings. And so hopefully you're going
