8:42 Addiction recovery and restoring dopamine levels

Chronic porn addiction can destroy your sex life, your love life, and even interfere with your emotions. Porn addiction isn’t about sex or pleasure; it’s about dopamine.

Pornography is the number one cause of erectile dysfunction in men under 40. Erectile dysfunction isn’t just the loss of erection; it’s a loss of libido and the ability to climax.

The porn industry is not selling sex, they’re selling dopamine spikes! Dopamine is not a pleasure hormone, it’s a neurotransmitter. It’s about the anticipation before the pleasure: the want.

Over time, pornography creates massive dopamine spikes, but the receptors are unable to receive them. This causes anticipation, cravings, and an obsessive urge to watch more porn. This is similar to the carb cravings you might experience if you have insulin resistance.

Although 98 to 99 percent of porn is free, the porn industry manages to make billions off of the 1-2 percent of porn you have to pay for. This system relies on decreased sensitivity to dopamine, causing a person to crave more extreme porn.

Too much dopamine leads to excitotoxicity, which is toxic to your neurons. As a protective mechanism, your cells will limit the amount of dopamine they allow in through a process called downregulation.

The good news is that the damage to your dopamine receptors is reversible! The surprising solution is boredom. Allow yourself to be bored if you’re faced with the urge to watch porn. Over time, this will become easier and easier as your dopamine receptors return to normal.

Try these tips to quit porn for good:

• Don’t take your phone into the bedroom

• Block pornography websites

• Do not use social media that has soft porn

• Remove triggers from your environment

To restore normal dopamine levels after pornography addiction, focus on the following:

• Sleep

• Consistent exercise

• Low-carb diet

• Zinc

• Magnesium

• Sunlight

Porn addiction isn't about sex. It's not about pleasure. It's about

0:24.2

dopamine. Right now, pornography is the number one cause of erectile dysfunction in men under 40 years

0:31.8

old. And erectile dysfunction is not just about losing erections. It's about losing libido. It's about losing the ability to climax,

0:40.9

causing a person to feel very empty, craving the stimulation, giving into it, and then the whole cycle

0:46.8

starts over and over again. It's a trap. So pornography not only destroys the person's private parts

0:53.1

and sensation for sex, but also the relationships.

0:58.0

The porn industry is not selling sex. They're selling dopamine spikes. The biggest confusion,

1:04.6

I think people have a dopamine is they think that it's a pleasure hormone. It's not. It's actually a neurotransmitter, which is similar to a hormone,

1:14.2

but it works within the nervous system. Dopamine is all about the anticipation before the pleasure.

1:22.1

It's the want, it's the craving, it's the gas pedal, it's an excitatory neurotransmitter. It gets you to seek out

1:30.4

certain things for survival. So there's other things that will give you the pleasure, but dopamine is

1:36.9

not that. Pornography is hijacking this whole system right here, which is the basis of bad habits and addictions.

1:45.0

There's something called the Coolidge effect. They've researched male mammals

and after mating the interests in that mate drops.

But if you take the mammal and introduce it to a new female,

that desire instantly returns.

2:01.6

So pornography tends to weaponize this.

2:04.6

This is why on their sites they have endless sidebars with all sorts of related videos and auto play.

2:10.6

But also there's this escalation from watching soft porn to more hardcore porn to more extreme porn.
