Have you ever wondered what to do in your raised bed once you pull a crop out?

Let's say you just finished spring, summer's coming, you've pulled everything out of your bed, and you say, okay, well, what am I supposed to do now with the soil?

How do I actually refresh a raised bed for the next growing season or the next growing cycle.

approaches many different methods but I'm going to talk to you a little bit about my approach and

So here's what I do. Well first of all we have to think about what is missing

from the bed now that we've grown in it right There's definitely some compaction that goes on,

you know, the elements, rain, etc.

Maybe you've walked in the bed,

or just the general settling of your soil over time

can cause a little bit of compaction.

Now if you have relatively healthy soil and a good mixture and texture

that's usually not a big deal.

But you know for me when I was dealing with heavier clay soil

the compaction might mean that I could grow really well for one season or one cycle and then after that if I tried to plant back into it I had a really hard time because now those plant roots can't really break through that

soil compaction.

So one thing that you can do is you can take something like a broad fork.
