Hello, gardeners. Today we are talking about peanuts.

Specifically, how do you plant peanut seeds?

Peanuts are a really cool plant to grow because unlike their name suggests, they're actually a legume, a bean, they're in a member of the bean family.

So if you're interested in trying your hand at peanuts in the

garden there are definitely a few things that you should know.

They are self-pollinating. The plants bloom above ground

while the pods, the peanut pods, develop beneath the soil.

Very odd weird looking plant and I would encourage you to give it a quick Google

and see how they grow visually because it's really unique.

It's really fascinating to see how this particular

delicious snack as I like to to munch on them quite a bit

is grown it's really neat

once the blossoms are fertilized on a peanut plant, the petals will end up falling away,

and then the stalks or pegs, which are below the ovaries of the plant,

elongate and bend towards the earth.

And then they grow into the soil, which is so cool.

Underground, the ovary enlarges and forms the peanut pod. It's just such an odd way for a plant to grow. It's very, very neat.

So how do we plant peanut seeds? That's the question that we're here to answer.

Well, you might have success if you try planting peanuts from the

grocery store and if you do try that you'll want to use raw ones of course not roasted because if it's roasted it will be

dead. The best bed is actually though to just purchase peanut seeds from a high quality nursery

or a garden center because then you're guaranteed to get peanut seeds that are designed to actually plant and grow.
