Summary

If you feel like you're constantly running but not moving forward…

Here’s why:

The problem isn't lack of time…

It's direction and energy.

When I first got started trying to build a business I wasn't disciplined like I am today.

I used to be the guy who would work a little bit, feel really good about myself, and then take a couple of hours off.

If I worked really well in the morning, I would take the rest of the day off.

I didn't have a strategy.

So after I started my company Spheric at age 24, I started reading books.

And it was a book called Getting Things Done by David Allen that changed EVERYTHING for me.

Now the way I work is completely different.

I have a place for all the crazy distractions that come into my world so I can be incredibly productive.

So in today's episode, I break down my 36-hour week as a multimillionaire in four steps to help you design your perfect week.

Welcome to the Growth Stacking Podcast. This is Dan Martel.

I'm going to break down my exact 36 hour week as a multi-millionaire in four steps.

0:13.0

This is how just last week I was able to shoot 13 podcasts, go to an NBA game, run an Iron Man, be present with my kids, and still grow my business.

0:21.5

Back in the day, I used to just work, work, work. I'd stay up till 2 in the morning and I would eat crap food. And then I would go to work the next morning and go for a meeting to meeting. And then in the afternoon, my brain would be dead. And I'm trying to make these decisions around product and marketing and biz dev and nothing work. And then eventually I gave myself

0:38.4

permission to change my schedule to map to my energy and everything shifted. Here's the strategy.

0:44.7

People are always talking about time management. You can't manage time. You can only manage the energy

0:49.8

that you've got within that time. First off, you have to work out and eat clean. I can tell the difference when I have sugar or things are not good for me. Second thing is you need to decide what do you do in the morning versus what do you do in the afternoon? Because most people, they're incredibly creative and resourceful in the morning, whereas in the afternoon, maybe that's better where you're going to collaborate and talk to other people. Now, the most important question to ask is what would make this easier? If you have to do work that feels like work, ask yourself, what would be true if this thing was easier? Maybe it's scheduling a meeting with somebody else so that you're accountable to them or that you collaborate with them. Maybe it's deciding to get out of your office and get out somewhere else where you feel more collaborative

or more creative. That is the question that will change everything for you. This is how I set up

1:32.2

my life to continue growing my businesses, but without it being at the expense of everything else

1:37.7

that's important to me. You see, a long time ago, I actually ended up in rehab. And even though it was a

1:42.4

very dark moment in my life, the silver lining at the end of it was that I was taught this strategy called the transition plan, where I sat down and I designed my whole life. Everything to make my life be set up in a way that was gonna support my new sobriety. And I've taken that concept to my life today. I mean, just this week, I've done podcast interviews,

2:01.4

hike mountains with my kids, ran my event, and even ran an Iron Man all in one week. And I know

2:06.1

this sounds crazy, but it's because I don't have a separation between personal and work.

2:11.6

To me, I love the people I work with. My friends are people I do Iron Man's with. My wife is my

2:17.2

partner in all ways.

2:18.9

That's just to me the integrated life. So I want to teach you my framework to think through this.

2:22.8

Here's how it works. So to do it right, you need this framework called the 10x vision map.

2:27.3

Essentially, it's a four box quadrant that lays out the different areas of your life that matters

2:32.8

the most so that you can have a vision for what you're trying to accomplish. The first box is your team. When I think about this,

2:38.8

I'm thinking about the people in my life, my friends, my advisors, my coworkers, my business partners.

2:45.5

It's everybody on the team. Think about if you had to design the best of the best 50 people

2:50.8

that you knew that
