Summary

Do you struggle with perfectionism? What is it that keeps you from taking action in your online business? Today we're going to define what perfectionism really is and how we can overcome it!

In today's episode, we discuss:

  • 5 ways to overcome perfectionism
  • What perfectionism actually means
  • How to grow your online business with promotion
  • How to run a successful membership in a small niche

Our spotlight story this week is Rina Orellana!

Rina Orellana is a professional flamenco dancer for around 25 years and has been teaching LIVE studio classes for the last 15-20 years. Rina says flamenco dancing is a nighttime and weekend gig, which is really hard when you have a family. She was a mother all day and a teacher all night, and it eventually became too much!

As her kids got a little older she realized she wanted to make some money without having to teach more hours. Before long, the prospects of having her own online business came into her life -and she eventually came to terms with creating a course teaching flamenco dancing. Of course, this search is what led her to Flipped Lifestyle (and her membership community)!

We have loved watching her growth in her membership as well as her growth as an entrepreneur and a CEO. This is an inspiring story of how you can transform your membership into an amazing income and career!

There's tons of value in this episode of the podcast because we're also answering a couple of questions from the Flipped Lifestyle Community forums!

0:39.1

Oh, perfectionism. The enemy of all entrepreneurs everywhere. The enemy of all online creators,

0:45.4

the enemy of everyone that creeping perfectionism. I don't even like the word perfectionism.

0:50.7

I don't even like to say it. And I just hate perfectionism because perfectionism is destructive. I'm not talking about excellence, right? We want excellence. We want to make things the best

they are. I'm talking about perfectionism, that thing that holds people back, keeps them from launching,

keeps them from doing things. And I know a lot of you listening right now may consider yourself a

perfectionist. Maybe you're not starting an online business because you're waiting for it to be perfect. Maybe you're waiting for the perfect conditions to start your own podcast. Maybe you're waiting for the perfect conditions to go out there and be an author, an entrepreneur, to be an expert, to do whatever it is you want to do with your life to go out there and chase your dreams. Maybe you're waiting for something. It's not quite perfect. You're not wait, ready to get it out into the world. Well, you know, kind of just think to yourself, like, am I a perfectionist? Am I using perfectionism as an excuse? Because it is an excuse. It is an excuse. For 90% of people I meet who say, I'm a perfectionist. I'm just not ready to launch yet. I'm not ready to chase my dream. The conditions aren't perfect yet. I often find that it's just an excuse. It's not a reason. It's an excuse. And the people telling me that they're a perfectionist are often lying to themselves, which in turn makes them lie to me and say,

2:01.8

I'm a perfectionist. And you might be like, someone's getting mad right now. There's someone in their car on a commute and you're going, oh, I'm not. No, I'm not. I really am a perfectionist. I'm a perfectionist, Shane Sams. Don't you say that to me. You're being mean, Mr. Sams. You're being me. No, you're lying to yourself. You're not a perfectionist. And here's how I know,

2:19.8

because I know the actual... mean, Mr. Sams, you're being mean. No, you're lying to yourself. You're not a perfectionist.

2:18.5

And here's how I know, because I know the actual definition of perfection, of being a perfectionist.

2:25.6

You see, if you look it up, the definition of perfectionism is to perfect something, to perfect something, right?
