isopods, but how does someone just make their first? Let's just imagine I have a simple

mason jar, what do I need to do and how do I do it in what order?

Okay, so I would break it down into as simpler process as possible.

So you want to look for something, so assuming you're not going to make your own substrate because you'd need to buy lots of different components.

The first thing you're going to need to buy is something called an A, B, G mix. Now this is a soil mix based on something created by the Atlanta Botanical Gardens and it's like the

gold standard of terrarium soil made up of lots of different components but

essentially it's a really good terrarium soil. It's airy, it holds on to moisture, but also doesn't become compacted.

So you will simply add a few handfuls of that into the mason jar, maybe until it's quarter full.

For aesthetic purposes I always arrange the soil on a gradient.
