So open your Bible to John Chapter 17 17 and we're going to look at Jesus, high priestly

prayer. This is the longest recorded prayer that we have of Jesus Christ. We prays for

himself for us who are Christians and for those who are not yet but going to be Christians. And Jesus is praying this prayer with his disciples.

And let me just submit this to you.

The best way to get close to someone, to get to know someone, is to pray for them and pray with them.

That's why Jesus, in this context of John 17, he's praying with his disciples.

If you want to deepen your marriage,

pray and bring God into the middle of that relationship. If you want to improve your

relationship with your children, pray for them, pray with them. Bring God into the middle of that

relationship. Same with family and friends. And Jesus here is allowing us to eavesdrop on his prayer

so that we can grow in relationship with God and

Him. Some will call this the high priestly prayer. In the Old Testament, the high priest would go

into the Holy of Holies and would pray and intercede on behalf of the people. Jesus here is

operating in that function as our great high priest. And this prayer is so significant in history.
