Whenever any sociological feature becomes pronounced in a society that feature will of course have its advocates, its prophets and priests.

I would argue that the new militant atheism that has appeared in our midst over the last

decade can actually be understood as the intellectual vanguard of our fatherlessness.

Fatherlessness, as it turns out, has its apologists.

These men are able to defend fatherlessness quite capably, for they were in fact shaped by it and want in turn

to shape it further. They want to make more of what made them. But there is a perverse twist in this.

Father Hunger made them, and so this means

that what they want to usher in is a larger famine for others.
