I am your host Corey Musgara and today we're going to talk about why you should relate to all of your

cups as if they are already broken. More to come on that weird cliffhanger in a moment.

First, let us settle in with the sound of the bells.

Here they are. And Good job bells. I love you so much. And I love you all for listening so much. Okay, so let's get back to this little riddle. This is a story that I think has been adapted and adjusted over the years and

the main message has been lost in translation but I forget where I heard it I'm going to tell it as I remember it

It's a story about this great monk name ajansha and during one of his lectures in the meditation hall he held up this goblet and he said

monks do you see this goblet how should we as monks relate to this wonderful goblet?

And one of the monks raised their hand and said,

Oh, we should love the goblet, we should think it's so precious and love it

and give it loving kindness and Najan Shah said,

maybe but not quite. Another monk raised their hand and said, oh we should be

unattached to the goblet, we should not not love it we should practice detachment and

a judge and i said maybe but not quite

he said for me this glass is already broken.

I enjoy it, I drink out of it, it holds my water admirably, sometimes even reflecting the

sun in beautiful patterns. If I should tap it it has a lovely ring to it. But when I put

this glass on the shelf and the wind knocks it over or my elbow brushes it off the table and it falls to the ground and

shatters I say of course when I understand that the glass is already broken

every moment with it is precious.
