Summary

This month I've been talking a lot about leading in the context of relationship, and how you're influencing and guiding yourself is one of the more important parts of the equation. There's a lot of advice that frames leadership as something you "do" to other people, but it often skips and important questions: how are you leading YOU? Are you looking to find purpose, navigate transition, or fix your relationships, all with a powerful group of men from around the world? So over the past few years, I've been talking about this idea of self-leadership and talking about how important it is for us as men to be able to lead ourselves effectively in our own lives.

0:13.3

Before we look at leading within the context of a relationship or a work environment, that those things are offshoot.

0:22.8

Those things are reflections of how you lead yourself within your own personal life, within your own psychology, within your own

0:28.7

morals and ethics, within the way in which you give your word and keep it. And so today,

0:35.6

because I've been talking about what it means to lead in a relationship,

0:39.2

I'm going to talk about one of the arguably the most valuable and important aspects, which is

0:43.4

how do you lead you most effectively? So the first thing that I want to talk about is just

1:03.2

yourself towards something, right? Ideally something positive, ideally something generative,

1:09.8

but it's really about how you influence

1:12.0

yourself, the decisions that you make, the direction that you take your life, the vision that you

1:17.3

have for yourself, the goals that you set for yourself, the things that you commit to, and the

1:24.1

attributes and the aspects of your life that you're trying to build some semblance of

1:29.8

really not only responsibility but your capacity to develop real competence within the various

1:39.0

aspects of what is meaningful. So self-leadership is essentially how do you influence you? Now, when we just

1:46.8

ask that question, there's probably a myriad of things that come up, right? You probably think,

1:52.0

well, sometimes I don't influence myself in a very good way, you know, or sometimes I'm allowing

1:57.7

everybody else in my life to influence my decisions. I see guys do this all the time

2:03.0

where, you know, they're dating a woman or they've been given a job offer and they sort of scout around

2:09.3

and they ask everybody in their life, what do you think? Do you like her? Do you think she's a good

2:14.2

fit for me? Do you think that we're going to work out? Or do you think
