As someone who's been in the workforce for a long time, I get a lot of, can I pick your brain emails from young people?

Some of these emails are even written by their mothers, fathers, aunts, colleagues, godparents on behalf of these young people.

But that's another story.

In any case, this always reminds me of when I was starting out.

I remember all the people who graciously fielded my early career questions. And now, decades later, I really do want to pay it forward

and help out the next generation. But often, when we do have that pick-your-brain conversation,

and I ask them to tell me a little bit about themselves,

there's a lot of rambling, so much that sometimes I wish I had never asked.

It's not their fault. It's just that the art of introducing yourself is a skill and a crucial one at that.
