Summary

How to have a successful, happy marriage (and partnership) is the focus of this podcast mini-series. Many of our real estate training and coaching clients have asked us how to structure a business and marriage without one being at the cost of the other. Today's show is part 1 of 6. Let us know what you think about this topic and these points...we are considering writing a book about this topic.  “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is a success.” – Henry Ford "As iron sharpens iron one man sharpens another"  Proverbs 27:17 1 - Choose well in the first place. This means you have to discuss and at least mostly agree on basic things in life. Here are some things to consider: - Religion - Finances - Credit - Debt - Assets - Politics - How to handle each other's family - Plans for kids or no kids - Parenting styles - Mental and emotional health and history of mental health - Physical health and history of physical health - Education - Lifestyle expectations...describe your dream house and compare notes - Where you want to live geographically - Where do you want to travel. Question….did you download your fill-in-the-blank business and life plan yet? If not, no worries. We have done the hard work for you. Download your REAL ESTATE TREASURE MAP! Text HARRIS to 47372. Terms & Privacy: slkt.io/JWQ 2 - Realize that marriage is a constantly evolving relationship. How you feel about your spouse when you are newlyweds will not be the same in 3 years, 5 years, maybe even after a few months. That's normal. Be willing to evolve together.   3 - Don't hang out with people who have marriage issues. Birds of a feather flock together. You will absorb their stress and start inadvertently mirroring it in your own relationship. Tip: Don't have out with your single friends. Make new friends with people who have long-term marriages.  POP QUIZ: Please choose one answer: 1) I am ready to join EXP Realty.  2) I am interested in EXP Realty and need more info.  3) I am not interested in EXP Realty.  Key: * If you answered “#1” congratulations. What's really working in today's market, how to generate more leads,

0:21.8

make more money, and have more time for what you love in your life. And now your host, Tim and

0:28.3

Julie Harris. Hey, we're back and we are going to answer a very special request. And we've received

0:35.0

this many, many, many times, like probably over a thousand times in many different forums. But people are always curious about how Julie and I

0:42.9

have been able to be married for 30 plus years, 31 this year, and to be able to work together

0:48.3

in several different businesses. And so what we're going to be doing, and what we did over the last

0:52.0

week preparing for this, is we wrote down almost 20 points about what we feel have been the key tenets of our marriage and our partnership and our business partnership.

1:01.3

And we're hoping that you guys will glean some value from these points we're about to make.

1:05.8

Now, before we get to point number one, I'm going to, Julie's going to share a little story that happened this morning when we were

1:11.3

working out. And this goes to one of your rules, Julie. Make sure every time you leave the house,

1:17.0

you always look nice. But I was glad that I bothered to put on makeup this morning because I ran into,

1:22.5

we ran into none other than the Ricky Martin, who is known to be one of our at least part-time neighbors here in

1:28.9

Puerto Rico. And we've seen him. I think I've met him, you know, sort of casually walking the dog

1:32.9

two or three times, but never to the point of actually having a real conversation. We were both in the

1:37.6

gym. He's working out. You know, he's got his ball cap on and his mask, but I kind of recognize him from previous, and, you know, he's Ricky Martin, so he's hard to miss. But we bonded over our French Bulldogs. Well, tell them. So this is the same

1:49.1

little thing that when Julie and I are nervous about approaching somebody, what we, and that we've

1:54.4

done this many, many times, and it really works is you find a picture on your phone and you will

1:59.3

show them a picture of something that they'll immediately

2:01.6

like obviously you want you know you don't want to just jump up on them to shove your phone in their

2:06.4

face but so we know that ricky has a french bulldog and so julie found a picture of our our french bulldog
