Summary

Why do some people change every year while others stay stuck repeating the same cycle?

In this episode, I walk through the simple framework I use every January to create lasting change. Not through motivation, but by changing identity, environment, and daily inputs.

We cover why identity drives behavior, how input goals lead to real progress, and how to build systems that support you even on your worst days.

If you want this year to be different because your habits finally match your goals, this episode will give you the clarity to start.

If you’re ready to do whatever is required to succeed for your health goals, then book a free consult with our team to talk about making that a reality.

Hello, hello, welcome to the Lean of Plants podcast. I'm super excited for 2026, so much so that

0:05.7

the other day I put an Instagram story out where I put that it was 2025, but it is not 2025,

0:11.5

it is 2026. And this is the time of year where people start to make New Year's resolutions.

0:16.3

We start to reflect on the year that we've had and try to think about what we want to achieve for the new year.

0:23.3

It's an opportunity for a fresh start.

0:25.1

No matter what you think about new year's resolutions, whether they stick or whether they don't,

0:28.1

whether you make them or whether you just carry on with your life, it's undeniable, but that this is a great time of year to start thinking about what you want to achieve. And for most women,

0:39.5

they're going into the January period, having gained a bit away over December, and it can be

0:45.4

kind of scary to be thinking, hey, I had these same goals last year, and I'm actually further

0:51.9

away from achieving them. And so what I want to do in this episode

0:55.5

is talk about how to start to make systemic change, how I look at the new year after now

1:02.6

maintaining my weight for the past six years and losing the 40 pounds that I struggled to lose

1:09.5

for decades because I used to every single January

1:14.2

write out, I want to get to my goal weight. And every single January, that number and that

1:20.4

goal would stay the same. It's such an amazing feeling to no longer have that on my New Year's

1:26.5

resolutions and not even need to be thinking about it in that manner.

1:29.3

So I'm going to share with you what I do for January, talk about how do we actually even define, like what our goals are,

1:35.3

figure out what's holding us back from achieving them, and then start to put some processes in place for who we actually need to be in order to make them a reality, not just for 2026, but for every

1:47.4

single year from here on out. If we want lasting change, then we have to think about systemically

1:52.4

changing who we are, our core decisions and what we do on a day-to-day basis by default,

1:59.0

essentially our identity. And so January, I'm always

2:02.2

thinking about who I want to become in order to achieve the goals that I have for myself.
