What's up everyone? We're back again with Carrot Week. I am recording this early because right now I'm actually in New York.

This would be, let's see, Thursday's episode. So today I will be at the Better Homes and Gardens event in New York and then the following few days I'm going to be seeing some epic

Epic farms out in New York. So I'm seeing Gotham Greens, which is this huge

sort of skyscraper hydroponic farm on a rooftop in New York. I'm going to see Homestead

Brooklyn, which is a woman who has 500 houseplants and a chicken in her apartment in Brooklyn, and I think is also a runway model. So a pretty cool lifestyle for her. I'm going to go check that out and we're going to see a bunch of other stuff. But today we're talking still about the carrot life. We're living the carrot life everyone. Hope you are living it as well,

and I hope that this episode's gonna help you live it better.

We're talking about the growing conditions

and the growing process of carrots now

because we've talked about types,

we've talked about planting techniques, and now we're going to get into the actual growing.

So we are going to talk about sun.

So when your carrots are seedlings, which means less than about four inches tall on the greens,

the thin carrot tops don't really like heat and direct sun.

They need a bit of shade, so that's completely fine to put them in a shady location.

However, once they've reached four inches or taller, you want to give them full sun.

And so what a lot of people will do is they will grow their carrots under like 50% shade cloth and then they'll take that off once they've grown up a little bit and they'll be completely fine in six to eight hours of sunlight once the greens are established.

Temperature wise, they like 60 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit, although once you have them nice and established, they can tolerate conditions

almost into the 90s. But hotter than that, they're going to start to bolt to seed and that's going to

ruin the taste of those carrot roots that we are growing them for.

If you're planning on growing carrots in the spring,

you should have beautiful, beautiful temperatures for much of that season.
