Hey everyone. Welcome back to the Epic Gardening Podcast. Today we're talking about a pretty cool plant. It's a wonderful house plant and it's also a it's also a commercial plant. People use this all the time. We use it every day probably and that would be the rubber plant or Ficus elastica.

Now it's a been a favorite house plant since the Victorian area and it's easy to care for and it actually removes

toxins from your home albeit not too much and not too much volume but it still

does have that quality about it.

So in its native environment, a rubber tree or a rubber plant will grow over 100 feet tall.

You don't need to worry as a house plant, rubber plants will not get more than 8 to 10 feet tall and with careful

pruning you can shape your rubber tree to be exactly as tall as you want.

Again its sap is used to produce rubber hence the name. The plants live for hundreds of years, but they

take seven years to be harvested for the first time. After those seven years, it will produce

rubber sap for about 30 years or so.

So it's a cool little backstory on the rubber plant.

But when we're talking about the rubber plant,

we are talking specifically about rubber plants

that we would grow as house plants.

They are wonderful.

Honestly, I have one of the variegated varieties

in my home right now, and it's one of my favorite,

and in my opinion, one of the most beautiful house plants

that you can have.

So that's why we should grow it.
