for today's topic. We're going to be exploring

one of divination's most ancient arts, and it's called lithomancy, which is basically just

using crystals as a divination tool. So we're going to share some history and some techniques for

this practice, but we're also hopefully

going to give you some practical and good exercises and tips that you can start using with your

crystals today. So settle in, clear your mind, and prepare to discover a whole new metaphysical

tool. So lithomancy at its core is divination through stones. The word merges the

Greek lithos, which means stone, with mantia, which means prophecy. It falls under the umbrella of

sortilage. Now this type of divination casting of lots has been practiced forever. The oldest

evidence for divination using stones or pebbles

appears in Mesopotamian omen literature dating as early as 3,000 BC. Clay tablets describe

methods of casting and interpreting small objects, usually stones, to answer questions posed to deities.

Several African divination systems use shells, bones, stones, or nuts in their casting rituals.

In the Middle East, geomancy, which means divination of the earth, has appeared historically connected to casting stones or drawing dots in the sand.

And some Persian folk traditions involve casting small stones or beads to answer yes, no, or directional questions.
