Summary

Burnout isn’t a sign you’re failing. It’s proof the system was never designed for you to thrive. Especially if you belong to a historically oppressed identity. In this episode, Sarah talks with Amelia Nagoski, DMA—co-author of Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle—about what burnout really is, how to recognize it, and the ways we can begin to recover. Together they explore why rest is radical, why emotions are meant to be completed like cycles, and why true healing comes through collective care—not just individual fixes.

feels useful, often through a series of different lenses.

1:15.8

And this is pretty basic for September,

but you probably know what I'm going to say already.

And that is this theme of back to school.

I have been hearing from so many people that they are ready for a reset,

1:38.8

they are ready for a reinvention, they are ready for a pivot. I have been coining this time that we're in now, the pre-pivot, where we're preparing, where we're shifting, where we're transitioning,

1:44.8

we're not quite to, you know, the end or to the next chapter. We're highly, highly in process.

We've pushed off from the shore. We're in the water. We're paddling, then we're floating, then we're riding the current,

2:03.7

then we're paddling frantically again, and we're beginning to see the next shoreline

2:10.0

fuzzily off in the distance. We can kind of see it. We might not exactly know what it is, though, right? Are we feeling this? Are you feeling into this?

2:23.1

A lot of folks I've talked to have shared that that's the feeling. We're processing a lot. We're

2:30.2

processing a lot of grief. We're processing a lot of illuminations we've had over the last

2:35.5

couple of years. But we are moving forward. We are transitioning. We are turning. This is very nine-year.

2:45.2

So I wanted to offer up a series of episodes that are pretty practical around some non-negotiables
