Do you need a degree to do copy writing?

Well, why do you think you need a degree to do copywriting?

I think sometimes people get confused

the difference between academic writing versus copywriting.

Academic writing is what you learn in school, right?

If you're getting a journalism degree,

most of my students don't have a journalism degree.

In fact, I don't have a journalism degree, right?

I got started with nothing.

And it's a learnable skill.

Copywriting, on the other hand,

it is about writing to provoke and motivate someone

and take an action.

We want to influence someone to take an action

and make a purchase.

So it has to do a lot more with conversational writing.

In fact, one of the things I teach all my students

is you gotta write the way you talk.

Some of my students who actually have academic background

when they come into my training program,

I actually have to correct them

of a lot of the bad habits that they have.
