Summary

This week, we’re considering event and exhibition submissions and asking what criteria should we use to decide if something is right for us. We consider both the financial and reputational benefits of events, identifying areas to consider including costs, location, audience match etc.

But we also go deeper. This topic unearthed a rare difference of opinion as a result of two different perspectives. In the end, we both agree that submission decisions shouldn’t be made in a vacuum - but rather as an element of your wider strategy.

We also discuss fear of sharing work-in-progress, the simple joys of returning to art after some time away, and the power of self-belief in determining the level of our success.

And we have got a cracker.

0:37.0

I think this is going to be a really practical episode.

0:41.0

We're going to be talking about how you choose an event or

0:44.6

submission for your art, for your business to put your work into, and we've got lots of

0:51.0

useful information and links and things to share with you on that.

0:56.0

But before we go into that, what have you been working on this week?

1:00.0

And I warn you, yeah, I've had a turnaround this week but tell me well no you go first then it sounds good well I was having a little bit of a grump moment it's funny isn't it because a couple of episodes ago I was talking about how I like doing these other things, not just painting and how this is a balance and this is the reality.

1:19.0

And then earlier one day this week, it just all hit me and it was just a bit too much and I put a

1:26.4

post on Instagram and I just said just I am I am I actually went to type grumpy

1:31.9

and I miss typed it and I couldn't even bother to correct I actually

1:35.0

I went to type Grumpy and I couldn't even bother to correct it but I actually think the word I came up with was Grumpte which was like even

1:40.6

even better and also there's a little bit of silliness in that, you know, I am grumpy, you know, I'm in a hump, I'm kind of a bit fed up, it just felt like a bit too many things.

1:51.0

And even just posting that and getting that out and I just thought to myself

1:56.3

you know this is up to you to turn around so if you feel you've been doing too much of that

2:00.8

then you need to be doing more of the other side and that's what's happened

2:06.2

in the last 24 hours so I am yeah high I'm high energy and partly with feeling how nice it is that actually we can kind of turn around our feelings on this with our own intentions, which is something that I'm playing with a little bit at the moment.
