All right, friends, we have a special treat for you today on Stand to Reason.

Alan Schleman, my colleague here at STR,

is going to help you to understand Islam

with his talk a closer look at Islam.

Alan? You know, oftentimes when I'm speaking on the topic of Islam, people look at me and they say, you know,

you look kind of Middle Eastern, is there some sort of a connection at all with that?

The truth is I am Middle Eastern.

My family is from Baghdad, Iraq, my brother was born there, my parents were born there,

most of my relatives were there.

In fact, I still have a few cousins.

But I am what's known as an a Syrian. So raise your hand, just out of curiosity,

how many of you who know who the a Syrians are? Not Syrians, but us Syrians.

Raise your hand. Okay, a good portion of you, if you're familiar with your Old Testament history, you'll recall the Assyrians are talked a lot about in the Old Testament.

And unfortunately for me, you know, we were the sworn enemies of Israel and consequently the sworn enemies of God.

So it was kind of a bummer growing up and as a little kid my parents coming up to me and saying,

hey guess what little Alan?

Guess what?

Hey our people are talked about in the Bible.

But you know what, we're the bad guys.
