Summary

Do you ever feel like no matter how much “work” you do on yourself, you still wind up stuck in the same patterns?

Maybe you’ve read all the books, attended countless therapy sessions and done a lot of introspection — and I mean, a LOT — but the changes you want to make just aren’t happening. Maybe you feel like you know all the answers, but you can’t get out of the start and stop cycle you’re caught up in.

If you’ve ever felt this way… you’re not alone.

In this episode I’m joined by Dr. Nicole LePera, author, psychologist, and creator of the popular Instagram account @the.holistic.psychologist, where she shares her journey of inner healing and how we can all start to make real change in our lives.

As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Nicole often found herself frustrated by the limitations of traditional psychotherapy. She wanted more for her patients—and herself— so she began developing a united philosophy of mental, physical and spiritual health that equips people with the tools necessary to heal themselves. She shares the life-changing results she discovered along her holistic psychology journey to nearly 4 million “self-healers” on Instagram, through her programs and with her new book “How to Do the Work”.

In this episode you’ll hear:

  • Why Nicole made the shift from being a therapist to creating her own protocol for healing [1:09]
  • The first steps for taking action to stop living life on repeat [3:34]
  • What she means when she says that we need to truly embody change for it to work [5:51]
  • What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and why it’s so important to be aware of how our feelings live in our bodies [7:39]
  • What’s really happening with our feelings when we’re overwhelmed [15:13]
  • How we can start to use breathwork and other techniques to reconnect with ourselves and make sustainable changes in our lives [17:41]
  • The impact of not being fully authentic and honest with our own self, and Nicole’s personal journey demonstrating this [33:19]
  • Why putting yourself out there and presenting yourself to the world as an entrepreneur can bring up so many emotions [36:35]
  • What to keep in mind about feedback and subjective interpretations of our work [38:58]
  • How Nicole started considering herself and not just others, and the way this helped her healing process [45:22]

I'm Melissa Griffin and while I was in my 20s, I turned a hobby blog into a multi-million

dollar company. Now, what I've discovered after working with thousands of entrepreneurs is that

0:10.6

the greatest thing standing in the way of success isn't another business tactic or marketing

0:16.3

strategy. It's your own mindset. Now, I believe that you're meant for more than just the status quo.

So on this show, you'll feel like you're sitting down with a friend who's here to help you transform your fears and roadblocks into a truly limitless version of yourself.

So I know that you are a trained psychologist and that was how you started everything that

0:47.3

you're doing. They're the holistic psychologist. And now you've kind of ventured into this world

0:52.3

of fusing almost spirituality with psychology

0:56.0

and with these different healing principles that you bring to your community. I would love to know,

1:01.3

like, what was that experience like for you? Getting started as a therapist and then moving into

1:06.2

this way of creating your own protocol for healing. I appreciate you asking, Melissa, in a lot of ways, it was, I mean, two words that came to mind when I heard your question

1:15.3

were disempowering, and another D word, destabilizing.

1:19.4

What I mean when I say that is, as long as I can remember, I was so fascinated with people,

1:24.4

with what made people alike me, similar to me, and what made people

1:27.5

dissimilar to me.

1:29.2

From the place of curiosity, I always kind of knew, intuitive, if you will, that I wanted

1:33.6

to be a psychologist when I grew up to help others grow in self-awareness and of course,

1:39.0

you know, manage whatever it is that we're struggling with.

1:41.9

On the human side of things, very familiar with the

experience of anxiety, panic attacks throughout my 20s, really it colored a lot of my adult experience.

And what I found several years in to having my practice was that I was stuck right alongside
