Derby 149, let's get to it. So the draw? No, it's not like the old days where they picked the names out of a hat.

Derby with a little more standardized process here where a race official will pick the name and in simultaneous fashion.

Another race official picks a corresponding gate number out of basically a pile of paper if you will.

So here's how it works. If you're a grizzled vet bear with me. I want to get people into our game.

I want to get people who don't know anything about it to give it a chance. So for a lot of people Derby is going to be the only thing they watch.

That's a goddamn shame. But you know what? You got to walk before you run. So look Derby, as we've discussed, you can go download kind of that prep episode of the pod.

It's an unnatural race. 20 horses is just something you're never going to see in the United States of America except for the Kentucky Derby.

There are rare instances if horses travel to places like Australia, Hong Kong, the UAE. You will see big fields.

But for 99.9% with a bar over it of horses. This is the first last and only time they'll ever see this amount of horses.

So unnatural and the draw. Look, I think the draws a little overblown. I'll be honest with you. Now I've got some fun stats for you about what post positions give you the most winners.

I would tell you the shape of the race, who's around you can matter as much as where you're placed.

Now there's only one spot to me where I really don't want to be. I just don't think you want to be down on the rail.

The way this works, and I said this in the preview, the way it works is this race can end for you in the first hundred yards.

It can end. It can end in the first five to seven seconds.

When you break and someone next to you doesn't break straight, they get bumped.

Picture a pile up accident. Picture somebody rear-ending someone on the highway and then they get rear-rended and then they get rear-rended.

And that person gets where it is this chain reaction that can be calamitous.
