Well, I remember my first week of college, I had missed most of orientation. I had been sick with fever, so I laid in bed shivering.

And so when I showed up my first day at Texas A&M I was disoriented.

It was a campus that covered hundreds of acres with thousands of students. It was overwhelming. In a town I had never of As a freshman, I applied to live in the freshman dorm,

at least to be among others who had experienced

in the same things I was experiencing,

but I was denied.

And so I had to hurry up and find a place to live,

and I lived off campus in a house with some upperclassmen

who weren't bad guys but really weren't interested in sort of helping me figure out how to integrate

into the school. I lived in their attic so I could stand at one part of my room

but then had to progressively get lower and roll into my bed every night. But I remember as I was trying to figure out my way in college,

one of my first nights there at school.

I got groceries for the first time and was unpacking them in the kitchen

and a girl came out of one of the guys' rooms in various

states of undress, said, what are you doing in my kitchen?

And I was like, I live here, I pay rent, I don't know.

And I realized like, oh, I didn't realize

girlfriends lived here.
