Summary

The Book of Mormon makes it clear that the gifts of the Spirit are a sign of salvation. If a church has the gifts of the Spirit, it is a true church that leads to salvation. If a church does not have the gifts of the Spirit, it is a false church that leads to… Read More »How the Book of Mormon Destroys Mormonism: RFM: 415

Hi, everybody. This is Radio Free Mormon, broadcasting behind enemy lines.

0:05.0

Tonight's episode is how the Book of Mormon actually ends up destroying Mormonism.

0:11.0

Now, it's a strange thing because the Book of Mormon is touted by the Mormon church as being the foundation,

0:16.0

and even the chief cornerstone of Mormonism, And yet there are a number of ways, actually,

0:22.4

in which the Book of Mormon destroys, contradicts, undermines modern Mormonism,

0:28.3

the religion that is based upon the Book of Mormon.

0:31.4

It's an interesting fact, and yet it appears to be true.

0:35.4

Now, there are a number of ways in which the Book of Mormon undermines

0:38.6

Mormonism, but we're just going to go after one issue in this episode, and that issue has to do

0:44.4

with spiritual gift. Let me go ahead and put up the title slide for tonight's episode. It is called

0:51.5

Spiritual Gifts in the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon condemns Mormonism.

0:56.7

So there is the title slide. Now, this particular podcast and this particular study, because this is

1:02.5

going to be a textual analysis of the Book of Mormon as compared with the Bible, you may remember

1:07.6

that we did a very similar thing. Only a few weeks ago with David P. Wright's paper that was published in 1993 talking about how the book of Hebrews or the epistle to the Hebrews was used in the book Mormon. It's the paper that got him excommunicated. And a number of the things I learned from studying that paper. The tools that were presented by David P. Wright, in his paper, all of a sudden, I'm able to start seeing things in the book of Mormon that I had not really seen or seen so clearly before. And that's one of the things I'm going to be talking about tonight. You remember that his paper was called, in plain terms that we may understand,

1:46.6

Joseph Smith's transformation of Hebrews in Alma 12 through 13. Well, here is going to be my paper

1:54.8

tonight. The Book of Mormon condemns Mormonism, Joseph Smith's transformation of 1st

2:00.3

Corinthians 13 in Moronai 7 by Radio

2:05.2

Free Mormon. So this paper, this study, this podcast has been inspired really by my reading

2:13.0

of David P. Wright's paper. If I had not read that paper, if I had not studied it, deeply enough to be

2:18.6

able to present it to you in a podcast, which I did a few weeks ago. If I had not done that, if I had

2:23.2

not learned those things, this podcast would not be happening. So I've got to dedicate this podcast to

2:28.4

David P. Wright. Now, I am not for a second trying to say that I am anywhere near his level, his caliber at all. Okay, I am an amateur. So I sort of feel like the little drummer boy going to give my gift to Jesus and playing my drums for David P. Right. But I'm going to play it the best I can, damn it. And here he goes, all right. I think that I found something of significant, something that is a contribution to Mormon studies.
