Summary

Atheists and anti-Christians often mock and ridicule the Bible with straw man attacks. This is a passage where Paul deals with this sort of thing and teaches us how to handle it as well. We also learn some serious humility.

So tonight we're going to talk about scoffers scoffing.

Paul in Romans chapter 3 deals with various scoffings, stuff that we actually hear

still nowadays and he actually deals with it

biblically and he deals with it with good philosophy and I don't mean

something crazy complex just good philosophy is just thinking clearly it's just

clear thinking and that's what he does. He's a first-rate philosopher, really,

Paul is, by God's wisdom given to him. And so he handles the scoffers here. He answers questions like, well, why even bother being a

Jew if the law just condemns you? Also, this one that we would get nowadays, is

God unjust to inflict wrath? On the basis of the fact that my evil gives God a chance to

show his righteousness when he judges me so really I'm doing the Lord's work

when I sin that's that's really that's the the scoffing attack that comes

here at the Bible, but we hear this kind of stuff today and so I'm excited about

this because we get to see how the Bible answers the scoffers.

Interesting stuff. And what we're doing on Sunday nights right now is we're going through

the book of Romans. This is a verse by verse study. Our idea is not only to get the main point of

the passage, but as we plod through my method is to get each point of the

passage. So in getting each point of the passage, you can sometimes lose the main point. I'm trying not to do that. I try to remind us of the main point.

And what the main point is is that Paul the Apostles trying to reveal to everyone.

Everyone has sinned.

This is the beginning of the gospel message.

The wrath of God has been revealed through the ungodliness and unrighteousness of man.

And he gets in a great detail of what those things are.
