But before we get into that, an update on last month's membership drive.

As you probably heard, if you were listening to the show last month,

Tech Won't Save Us turned four years old.

And to celebrate that,

we asked you to sign up and help us hit a goal of 200 new supporters in the month of April

so that we can make a special series looking at the AI hype, the data centers that power

it, and the growing opposition that exists to their construction and the vast resource

use that they demand. Now, we did not fully hit our goal last

month, but we did really good. About 130 people signed up to become new paid supporters or

upgraded their memberships on Patreon. And thank you to all of those people, to all of the people

who have been supporting the show for months and years before that, and of course, to all of you who listen as well. We didn't hit our goal, but we do still want

to make this series. So our plan now is to connect with some organizations and foundations

who fund this kind of work to see if they would help us make this series digging in-depth

on AI and data centers. What my producer, Eric, and I learned from making the Elon Musk

on Mass series last year is that there's a lot of work that goes into these things. And so a bit more

funding to help us get the time and the space to be able to do the research that will be necessary
