Summary

Do you REALLY know where you are, what you’re doing, and why you’re doing it? Most of us will respond with a resounding, “YES!” It’s easy to answer this question with a literal, in the moment anwer. “I am on the highway, driving at 55 miles per hour, so that I can get to work, so that I can earn a paycheck, so that I can support my family.” Sure, I guess that answers the question, but on a very surface level. Go deeper. Why are you doing those things? How did you get to where you are and regardless of whether these decisions are for better or worse, why do you continually choose to live in this way? Do you truly know yourself? Today is all about heightening your emotional intelligence as it pertains to cultivating self-awareness.

0:36.5

your emotional intelligence as it pertains to cultivating self-awareness. So in order to really dive into self-awareness, I believe it's imperative to

0:50.1

look at knowing yourself.

0:53.2

And ultimately what does it mean to know yourself?

0:58.4

It's easy to potentially just skip right over this, right?

1:03.0

That it's rhetoric, that there's no actual meaning or depth to it.

1:11.0

As I made mention to start the episode, it's very easy to say, sure, I know myself.

1:15.0

I'm incredibly self-aware.

1:18.0

There's a good chance you're even thinking, well I know who I am.

1:21.0

Isn't that just what self-awareness really is?

1:25.2

While that is one component, it is my belief that it's much deeper than that.

1:30.7

And you shouldn't be so certain.

1:39.0

In this moment, do you know why you behave the way that you do?

1:45.0

Do you have an internal guidance that drives your decisions? How do you really feel about yourself and the people that are in your lives?

1:50.0

And then how do we really feel about ourselves and the people that come into our lives?

2:00.0

It's interesting when you begin to peel back the layers of what we believe to be true,

2:09.6

what we think is true, and the response rate based off that bias that every one of us carry around.

2:20.0

I would like to take just a moment and define what I view self-awareness to really be.

2:27.0

Absolute awareness as a whole is a knowing about what's happening around you, the environment you're in, cars in motion, just things. But self-awareness
