All right, boys, robot umpires have officially arrived to Major League Baseball. Well, sort of.

It's only for spring training right now, not for the regular season. Okay. Okay.

But the system known as ABS automated balls and strikes, presented by T-Mobile, of course.

So the umpires still make the calls, though.

Still challenge-based, and the pitcher the pitcher the catcher and the batter

are the only three players who can appeal the call at home plate for balls and strikes so the

catcher can't have any help from the dugout they can't have any help from any other player

it has to be immediate right after the call. And right now, each team gets two challenges

per game. So this is very similar to the Hawkeye technology for tennis majors or challenge flag

in the NFL. And if you get your call right and it's not and it is overturned, then you keep your

challenge. But if you get it wrong, your challenges go away. and that's where some strategy is coming into professional

baseball now. Look, I love it. I think it's great. I like that they haven't taken out the umpires

totally and just had a robot there that is calling balls and strikes, because I think it still

gives you the element. Because we love the aesthetics of the manager arguing with the umpire

getting thrown out and this that and the other never said a fucking work too yet let him fuck you
