Today, two years after the first coronavirus lockdown,

we look ahead to a post-pandemic future.

Everyone remembers where they were when it happened. The date was March 23rd and I was in my kitchen

talking to some friends on house party. You remember that video calling out that boomed so briefly

towards the start of the pandemic.

And we were all making dinner.

They're now following a ministerial broadcast from the Prime Minister.

Good evening. The coronavirus is the biggest threat this country has faced for decades

and this country is not alone. We were speculating about what that announcement would be

and I remember my friend Egen called it right, a national lockdown.

Though I don't think any of us really believed that we'd be stuck making video calls like that one

for months and months to come.

A second wave of coronavirus cases in the UK could result in around 120,000 more deaths.

A senior minister has warned that a third spike of coronavirus infections is possible.

Covid may not have been in the headlines for a while but it hasn't gone away far from it

as new data shows.

It was impossible to imagine then how it would feel to be away from each other for so long,

to miss births, birthday parties and to be separated from the people we love even as they were

dying. Two years later, what we used to count as normality still hasn't returned.

There may be future outbursts. It could continue to evolve for a very long time forever in fact

and we'll always be adapting to it. Just hopefully not at this quite dramatic level.
