nutrition research is very complicated. And it's very easy to grab one study that agrees with your opinion and present it in a way that makes it seem like your opinion is science-based, but it's actually not if you understand how nutrition science works overall. So in this episode, I want to give a quick introduction about how we come to conclusions about topics in nutrition.

For example, if scientists say vegetables are good for your health, what are they basing that on?

How do we actually know the vegetables are good for your health?

So first, I want to give an overview of the major types of nutrition research.

These are the forms of evidence that we use to develop a conclusion about a topic.

We don't really have quote unquote facts in nutrition.

You can't necessarily say something is a fact. What we do

have is evidence to support a theory. For example, if we're discussing the relationship between

saturated fat and heart disease, I would not feel comfortable saying that saturated fat

causes heart disease in claiming that that's a fact. Now, I would feel comfortable saying that saturated fat causes heart disease in claiming that that's a fact.
